Ged Murphy - Head of Concepts , General Dynamics UK
Ged is the Head of Concepts at General Dynamics UK. He joined the business in 2020, after a military career that spanned 25 years, having served as an Infantry Officer in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, before Battalion Command with The Royal Welsh.
In his GD role, Ged helps the business better understand what is happening across the Defence Sector, and how it is that GDUK can better support the Armed Forces and amplify its social impact across communities. His role is multifaceted, in addition to delivering operational advice, Ged has created a real sense of purpose, re-connecting the organisation and its people with those who serve the nation. As a result of his leadership, GD continues to be the proud holder of the coveted Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award. He has energised GD’s approach to delivering Social Value and promoting diversity and inclusivity and has become a visible leader on all matters linked to Corporate Social Responsibility.
Ged generously devotes extra time to mentoring others, particularly veterans in transition and those wishing to pursue a career in the Armed Forces. In early 2023, Ged was successfully nominated by his colleagues for the Veteran Leader Award in recognition of the positive impact he makes within the business and across the wider community.
Ged is a father of two who loves watching his eldest son Joe develop as a Welsh Cross Country athlete, and his youngest son Peter, as an up-and-coming academy footballer. Educated and raised as an ‘Irish Liverpudlian’, Ged graduated from Edinburgh University before joining the British Army in 1995.
