Ifan Evans

Ifan Evans has fifteen years experience leading strategic transformation at national level, in government and the NHS.

As Director of Digital Strategy at DHCW he leads several major NHS Wales transformation programmes, including the NHS Wales App, an all-Wales digital diagnostics replacement programme, digital medicines programmes across primary and secondary care, and delivery of a national data platform across NHS Wales. He is the national lead for digital health architecture, and in DHCW he is the executive lead for AI and emerging technologies, and a member of the NHS Wales AI Commisson.

Previously he was the Welsh Government lead for health and care transformation, innovation, and technology, reporting to the CEO NHS Wales, with responsibility for an annual budget of £250 million.  He was SRO for the delivery of the Healthier Wales strategy, and he led health and social care preparations for leaving the EU, and the digital response to the Covid-19 pandemic. As part of leading for national transformation, technology and digital funding programmes, he led the creation of Life Sciences Hub Wales, Health Technology Wales, and Digital Health & Care Wales as new organisations.

Professor Evans is passionate about making digital a force for good, helping people to work smarter, improving health services, and delivering better outcomes. He was a finalist for UK Digital Leader of the Year 2024, is a member of the Digital Health Advisory Group for Europe, and a regular guest lecturer and keynote speaker.
