Mateus Mendonca Oliveira - Industrial Decarbonisation Strategy Manager, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero
Mateus is the Industrial Decarbonisation Strategy Manager at the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). Prior to this role, he served as Head of Steel Trade Policy at the UK Department for Business and Trade. He has extensive experience in geopolitical issues related to steel decarbonisation and iron production. Mateus played a key role in the UK’s COP26 presidency, leading initiatives on the decarbonisation of steel, cement, shipping, and aviation. He has also worked within the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the UK Cabinet Office.
Before joining the British Civil Service, Mateus worked in the international banking sector and for NGOs in Geneva (Switzerland), as well as in think tanks in The Hague (Netherlands) and London (UK).
He holds a Master’s degree in Law, Economics and Management with a specialization in Economic Policy Analysis from Sorbonne Paris Cité University, and a second Master’s degree in Political Economy, Macroeconomics and Finance from Kingston University. Additionally, he earned two Bachelor’s degrees in Economic Sciences and International Relations from Faculdades de Campinas (FACAMP) in Brazil.
