Prof. Patricia Mawuli Porter OBE DL - Managing Director, Metal Seagulls Ltd
Patricia was born into a rural farming and fishing community in Ghana, West Africa, where she faced unimaginable challenges – and overcame them. Patricia went on to become the first civilian woman to obtain a pilots licence in Ghana. She learned to build and maintain light aircraft, and is the first woman worldwide to obtain a number of aviation and engineering accolades. In the UK, where she now runs her own company in the Aerospace sector, she is the only black female aircraft inspector the LAA and the BMAA (light aircraft oversight organisations). Patricia’s company provides sales and service – including custom design and development of aviation, agricultural and related products – throughout the UK, Ireland, Iceland, the Falkland Islands and the continent of Africa. Patricia was awarded an OBE for services to aviation by the late Queen Elizabeth II, made a professor of practice by the University of Wales Trinity Saint David and was recently appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Dyfed, through which she represents the Lieutenancy, on behalf of his Majesty the King, at civil ceremonies.
Patricia and her team are working on the Fafali Aircraft concept, a NexGen light aircraft solution for surveillance, humanitarian, agricultural and training purposes, that stands to bring an affordable solution to flight in the most challenging conditions.
Patricia founded S.T.E.A.M. Flight Academy, which is a non-profit aimed to boost inspiration and motivation through courses, products and awards.
Patricia is a role model and inspiration to all, with an inimitable style and energy.
