Lee Phillips - Wales Manager, Money and Pensions Service

Lee Phillips is a passionate financial wellbeing specialist, and has worked across the public, private and voluntary sectors in Wales. This has driven her career since she was a mature student, working part-time at a banking call centre. Lee lives in Cardiff and has led work on financial capability and wellbeing in Wales since joining the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in 2008, to now with the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS).

Working for MaPS and in partnership with the Welsh Government, Lee is responsible for the creation, coordination and delivery of the Financial Wellbeing Delivery Plan for Wales. Since its original pilot in Wales in 2015, Lee has been working on Talk, Learn, Do, a pioneering set of activities to help parents talk to their children about money, initially in person and now also as a self-serve digital tool available across the UK.

Lee draws on her early youth work career, delivering youth information services in three local authority areas in Wales. As well as her personal experience of leaving school with one O’Level and joining the YTS Scheme with British Rail (bonus points for anyone who remembers these three!), being married at 17, and by 21 focusing on bringing up her two children and now as a grumpy menopausal Nana.

Lee has previously been trustee and Chair of several voluntary and third sector organisations and is currently a member of the National Advice Network and other advisory and stakeholder groups and chairs the Wales Financial Education Forum.
